Edsel B. Burdge, Sr., 87, of Amberson, entered into rest, May 9, 2023, in his home.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Alma W. (Johnson) Burdge.

Born March 5, 1936, in Amberson, he was a son of the late Roscoe R. and Thelma Mae (Funston) Burdge.

Edsel is fondly remembered as a "Jack of all Trades" and master of many.  He was a self-employed plumber for many years and worked for his brother, Merritt, in the logging business.  He collected and repaired hit and miss engines as well as building miniature steam and hit and miss engines. One of his other special joys were the Koi fish ponds on his property.

Very involved in his community, as a younger man he was fire chief and ran with the ambulance crew at Fannett-Metal.  He was a member of the first Emergency Medical Technician class in the state of Pennsylvania, with his last class in the course being emergency obstetrics.  On the same day as his final class, he had his first opportunity to deliver a baby, the first of five he delivered during his tenure. He also initiated Junior Fireman and brought 911 to "The Valley."

He was a member of Laurel Grove United Methodist Church in Amberson Valley, and had been active in Heritage Days in Blain.  He served in the Army National Guard and was a member of American Legion McCartney Post 232, Spring Run.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Alma, are five children: Sonya M. Burdge Jones of Washington, PA; Edsel Burdge, Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, of Shippensburg; Audrey R. Sellers and her husband, Rob, of Chambersburg; Lee Kitzmiller and his wife, Dee, of Chambersburg; and Kenny Kitzmiller and his wife, Jessi, of Spring Run; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  Additional survivors include three brothers: Raymond Burdge and his wife, Marie, of Spring Run, Stanley Burdge of Chambersburg, and Merritt Burdge  and his wife, Sheryl, of Spring Run; a sister, Karena Parsons and her husband, Ronald, of Hagerstown, MD and numerous nieces and nephews

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jim Sherman, a grandson, Casey Ehrhart, and a sister-in-law, Marlene Burdge.

His funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 16 at 11 AM in Laurel Grove United Methodist Church, 17697 Amberson Road, Spring Run, PA 17262 with Pastor Darwin Goshorn officiating.  Viewings will be held Monday 6 to 8 PM in the Agett-Lakjer Funeral Home, 16715 Path Valley Road, Spring Run and again Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be in Amberson Union Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the church, address above.   The family would like to thank Brandi, Mandy, Karen, Jules, and Bob from ProMedica for the excellent hospice care they gave our loved one. www.agettlakjer.com
