Grace E. Shearer, 83, went home to be with her Lord on July 10, 2025, in the Broad Mountain Health & Rehabilitation Center, Frackville, PA.  She was the beloved wife of David Paul Shearer and lived in Doylesburg until 2020, when they moved to Mount Joy to live with their daughter.  The couple observed their 60th wedding anniversary in Sept. 2024.

Born April 18, 1942, in Doylesburg, she was a daughter of the late Homer and Alice (O'Donnell) Fleagle and was a member of the first graduating class from Fannett-Metal High School, graduating with Honors in 1961.

Following the death of her mother, when she was 11 years old, she took on the responsibility of the household duties, including baking bread.

Grace was a longtime member of the former Dry Run Church of the Brethren, where she taught the Sunday School class for the younger children for 45 years.  She especially received much enjoyment from caring for children and little children always seemed to be drawn to her.  Grace  also loved gardening and mowing grass.  In addition, she played softball and loved watching and unofficially umpiring baseball games.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, Paul, are a daughter, Sandra Higgins, and a son, Daniel Shearer, all of Mount Joy; 2 grandchildren, Jordan Higgins and his wife, Kacey of Mount Joy and Emily Kocsis, and her husband, Bruce, of Camp Hill and 3 great grandchildren, Asher Kocsis, and Ty and Nora Higgins.  Also surviving are 2 brothers, Paul (and Jocelyn) Fleagle of Shippensburg and Dale (and Judy) Fleagle of Hagerstown, her brother-in-law, Leonard Hockenberry, (husband of the late Betty) of Doylesburg and several generations of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Timothy Higgins, 2 sisters, Irene Piper and Betty Hockenberry and 4 brothers, Jesse, James, Wilbur and Richard Fleagle.

Her viewing will be Tuesday, July 15, 2025 from 9 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM in the Agett-Lakjer Funeral Home, 16715 Path Valley Road, Spring Run, PA, with Pastors Isaac Burkholder and Timothy Vaughn, officiating.  Interment Doylesburg Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations in her name are preferred to the Dry Run Covenant Brethren Church, PO Box 189, Dry Run, PA. 17220.   www.agettlakjer.com
