Mrs. Janet (Baumgartner) Hazard, 89, of Shippensburg, Pa., went to be reunited with her husband, sons, family and friends on Tuesday, February 1st, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Phillip Armour and Edythe Mae (Cordell) Baumgartner.

Born in Kimball, Tennessee on September 13th, 1932, her family moved to the District of Columbia 5 years later. There, Jan met the love of her life, Robert Lee "Bob" Hazard, in high school at McKinley Tech in 1948.

They married in 1951 and over the years had 5 children. Bob and Jan did everything together. Their interests were traveling, auctions and antiquing, puzzles, church, and anything involving family.
Jan was a Sunday School teacher, Den Mother, business partner and supporter of the community, wherever Mom and Dad lived.
Jan was a prolific letter writer and was always reaching out to family and friends with a note of encouragement.
Last year, Jan established a scholarship in her fathers' name to help youth attend summer camp.

After 67 years of marriage, Bob passed in 2019, Jan caring for him with Alzheimers in their home. She also was preceded in death by her sons Robert Lee Hazard, Jr. (wife Susan survives) and Glenn Richard Hazard (wife Lourdes survives), as well as her parents, a sister and 4 brothers.

Surviving are a daughter, Cheryl Janet (husband David) Varner, Newville, Pa., sons Gary Lewis Hazard, Shippensburg, Pa., David Holmes (wife Lisa) Hazard, Harrisburg, Pa., her brothers Larry K. (wife Patt) Baumgartner, Tucson, Az., and Richard O. Baumgartner, Bunker Hill, W. Va., and a sister Kay Baumgartner Adkins, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and 4 step great-grandchildren, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of her life will take place at a later time.
