Janet L. (Peterson) Shearer Humbert, 95, formerly of Dry Run and most recently of Chambersburg, passed away, January 27, 2025 in Paramount Nursing and Rehabilitation at Fayetteville.  She  was the wife of the late George W. Humbert, who died in 2020 and was also preceded in death by her first husband, Harold F. Shearer, in 1985.

Born November 1, 1929, in Fannett Township, she was a daughter of the late Harold W. and Lorene (Dunkle) Peterson.  She attended school in Path Valley and retired after a career of 30 years with the Beistle Company, Shippensburg.

Janet had been an officer in the former Path Valley Lioness Club and a former member of the Spring Run United Methodist church.  She had also been a member of the former Shippensburg First Court Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.  She loved bingo, seeing the completed project of assembling puzzles and cooking such wonderful dishes of ham potpie stew and fried chicken.

Surviving are 3 children: Garfield Shearer (Cindy) of Shippensburg, Donna J. Foreback (Doug) of Chambersburg and Carolyn L. Thomas (Richard) of Marion; 6 grandchildren, Sandra Foreback, (April), Molly Martin (Jason), Bradley Shearer (Lauren), Lori Morris (Shawn), Amy Brown (Christopher) and Carrie Strite; 8 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.  Also surviving is a brother, James Peterson (Sally) and 3 sisters, Lena McMullen, Jackie Monninger (Gary) and Linda Sites (Maurice), all of Dry Run.  In addition to her husbands, Harold and George, she was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sandra, in 1949, an infant great grandson, Kirkland Cowan in 1998, 2 brothers, Donald Peterson and Carl "Chub" Peterson, a sister, Helen Jean Atherton and a brother-in-law, Emory "Junior" McMullen on Dec. 3, 2024.

Her viewing will be Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, after 5 PM followed by the service at 7 PM in the Agett-Lakjer Funeral Home, 16715 Path Valley Road, Spring Run, with Pastors Darwin Goshorn and Marlin "Butch" Neil officiating.  Interment in Path Valley Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family at a later date.  www.agett-lakjer.com
