Obituary

Lena Mae (Cisney) Berrier, 101, passed away peacefully in her Shade Gap home, surrounded by family, on October 8, 2026.

She was born May 5, 1925, in Nossville, PA a daughter of the late Charles Brady and Nellie (Campbell) Cisney. Lena graduated from Orbisonia High School in 1944 and worked at Letterkenny Army Depot

She married Dean Alexander Berrier on June 23, 1945, they were married for 68 years before Dean passed away on May 9, 2013, at the age of 95. Together they managed a general store in Shirleysburg from 1945 to 1947. In 1950 they purchased the Berrier Homestead in Shade Valley where they farmed for 20 years. Lena also worked for a sewing factory for 10 years and as a caregiver for the elderly.

In addition, she also enjoyed volunteering at church events, 4-H and the Shade Gap Volunteer Fire Company. She was a member and held positions of president and treasurer for the Shade Gap Ladies Auxiliary, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and the Pennsylvania Farm Women.

Later in life she especially enjoyed time traveling and gardening with her husband Dean.

Lena is fondly remembered for her kindness, generous spirit and had a special way of making everyone around her feel welcome.

Surviving are 2 sons, Michael Dean Berrier and his wife, Judy (Hunter) Berrier of Shippensburg and their children, Kelby Berrier and his wife Tammy and Tammy Carbaugh and her husband, Frank, and her second son, Ray Alexander Berrier and his wife, Patricia (Whitsel) Berrier of Orbisonia and their children, Jamie Berrier and his wife, Beth, and Shawn Berrier and his wife Jamie and Leslie Winnick and her husband, Glenn. Also surviving are 8 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Dean, she was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Andrew and Russell Cisney and a sister, Wanda Cisney.

Although she will be deeply missed by family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing Lena, her memory will live on through her legacy of love and kindness.

Her service will be held Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026 at 2 PM in St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 11691 Circle Street, Shade Gap , PA with Pastor Patricia Hall officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service between 1 and 2 PM. Interment Salem Cemetery.
