Leona B. Coons "Onie", 83, of Concord went to be with the Lord on January 10, 2025, at York Hospital.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle E. Coons, on March 18, 2001.

Born August 24, 1941, in Tell Township, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Oshell and Dorothy (Goshorn) Scott and graduated from Orbisonia High School.

Onie worked as a seamstress for 37 years at the former J. Schoeneman Co. in Chambersburg.  She also had employment at the former Howard Johnson's, The Dairy Dine and at Path Valley Restaurant.  She completed her working career as a nurse at Shippensburg Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Onie is fondly remembered as being a wonderful mother and grandmother who loved attending all the sporting events for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  An avid sports fan, her favorite teams included the Pittsburgh Steelers, Notre Dame and the Duke Blue Devils.  Also, the family recalls her hospitality, as foreign exchange students were always welcome in her home.

Her favorite pastime activities included knitting, reading books and watching game shows.

Surviving are  3 children, Mark A. Coons, of Blairs Mills, Luke D. Coons and his wife, Wilma, of Burnt Cabins and Nicole L. Koser, and her husband, Dwain, of Shippensburg, and a sister, Ginger L. Best, and her husband, Daryl, of Honey Grove.  Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, Mark B. Coons, Trisha Coons, Hailey Rauch, Jayda Coons, Stevie Coons, Tucker Wrights and Diesel Koser and her 8 beloved great grandchildren, Emily, Jacqueline, Damien, Shaniah, Layla, Sylvi, Senna and Sigrid. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, Larry, Oshell and Benny Scott and a sister, Beverly Scott.
