Lucy Anna “Luanne” Miller Shoemaker, 54, recently of Chambersburg, PA, and a former longtime resident of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on August 19, 2026, in her home. She was the wife of Derek Shoemaker.

Luanne was born March 15, 1972, in Berkeley Springs, Morgan County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Arthur Virgil Miller and Ruth Marie (Tritapoe) Miller.

Throughout her life, Luanne worked as a nurse aide and was also an experienced cook in the restaurant industry. She spent many years caring for and serving others through her work.

Luanne was truly a free spirit who lived life in her own way and on her own terms. Her favorite place on earth was Low Water Bridge, Great Cacapon, WV, a place that brought her happiness and peace throughout her life. She also had a special love for her kitty cats, who were always close to her heart.

Those who knew Luanne knew just how big her heart could be. She was the kind of person who would give someone the clothes off her back or her very last dollar if they needed it. She had a beautiful smile that could light up an entire room and a personality that was impossible to forget. But anyone who really knew Luanne also knew she had a fiery side—if you crossed her, there might just be a price to pay. Her strength, stubbornness, generosity, humor, and unmistakable spirit were all part of what made Luanne who she was.

Luanne’s journey through life was not always an easy one, and she carried struggles that were often heavier than others could see. Through it all, she was loved and will always hold a place in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Her family will remember her in their own special ways and carry those memories with them throughout their lives.

Although her passing was unexpected and leaves behind tremendous heartache and many unanswered questions, her family finds comfort in knowing that she has finally found the peace she deserved. May she now be free from the burdens she carried in this life and rest peacefully.

In addition to her husband, Luanne is survived by her two daughters, Matayia Marie Miller of Hagerstown, MD, and Sage Morgan Miller of Martinsburg, WV; her sister, Katherine Miller Yetter; her brothers, Rodney Dean Miller, Thomas Edgar Miller, Michael Fultz, and Jonas Fultz; as well as her nieces, nephews, extended family, and others whose lives she touched.
