Melvin L. "Buck" Bowen, 89, of Fannettsburg, passed away August 4, 2021 in Laurel Lakes Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg.

Born Sept. 28, 1931 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Lige S. and Carrie (Wauls) Bowen.  Following his education in Chambersburg, he served in the Army for 3 years during the Korean War.  He later played football for several years with the Chambersburg Cardinals.

The companies he worked for included American Can, Heinz, Modern Home, Knouse  Foods and was last employed by Metal Township.

He was a member of the American Legion McCartney Post 232, Dry Run and a Life Member of the Metal Township Fire and Ambulance Co. and served on the Fire Police.

Surviving are 2 daughters: Sandy Bowen of Newburg and Trudy Kilgore and husband, Eric, of Chambersburg; a grandson, Zachary of Chambersburg, nieces and nephews and his caregiver, Sarah Neil, of Fannettsburg.

The last of his family, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lige, and 4 sisters: Frances, Betty, Margaret and Mary.

Viewing Sat., Aug. 7 after 10 AM followed by the service at 11:30 AM in the Agett-Lakjer Funeral Home, 16715 Path Valley Road, Spring Run, with Pastor Darwin Goshorn officiating.  Interment Tuesday Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.  In lieu of flowers family prefers donations in his name to the Metal Twp.
