Rory R. "Burny" Burns, 66, of York Springs, and long- time resident of York County, fell asleep in death on February 3, 2023, in WellSpan York Hospital.  Burny is survived by his wife, Sherri A. (Light) Burns.  During his time in the hospital he was surrounded by close friends and family with their loving support and when his friends would say "Hey," he rebounded with his signature response "Hey Yourself!"

Born October 28, 1956 in York, he was the son of the late Charles Vernon Burns, Jr. and JoAnn Elaine (Brenneman) Burns.  He was a proud member of the class of 1974 graduating from Massanutten Academy in Woodstock, VA.  Burny had been an over the road truck driver until taking employment as an EMT at White Rose Ambulance Service in York. Following that, he worked as a welder for Leonhardt Manufacturing in Hanover.  He retired as Transportation Coordinator for Hanover Hall Nursing & Rehabilitation.  He was also a volunteer firefighter for the Dallastown Fire Department and as an EMT for Yoe Borough York Regional Emergency Medical Services.  Burnie was an expert marksman and Honorably Discharged from the Marine Corps following the Vietnam War.

Burny loved to travel and he and Sherri enjoyed many trips together including St. Thomas, the US Virgin Islands,Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the NC Outer Banks, Hilton Head, SC and many trips to Ocean City, MD.  The highlight of his travels was to Cabo Wabo and listening to his favorite singer, Sammy Hagar.  He also loved deep sea fishing, snorkeling and boating.  Above all, his greatest pleasure was the quiet time he could spend with family, friends and his dogs.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Sherri, are 4 children: Christopher Longo, Potter County, Corey Burns, Elizabethtown, Leah Ryder and husband, Clinton, of Amberson and Dustin Kortisses and his wife, Tara, of Abbottstown and son-in-law, Michael Crumbling of York Springs;  11 grandchildren including grandson, Lucian and granddaughter, Olivia and 1 great granddaughter. Additional survivors include his mother-in-law, Marlene Light, of Hanover, sister-in-law, Cindy Tavares and husband, John and brother-in-law, Shawn Light and his wife, Rebecca, all of Littlestown, 2 half sisters and numerous nieces and nephews, especially Brittney and Jonathan Koontz of Hanover that brought him support and joy.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Mark.
