Stanley E. Sheffield, 79, of Shade Gap, passed away April 6, 2022, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.  He was the devoted husband of Laverne A. (Locke) Sheffield.

Born March 19, 1943, in Fort Littleton, he was the last surviving of eight children born to the late Harry E. and Anna Ruth (Garman) Sheffield and graduated from Forbes Road High School, Fulton County.

For many years he was employed as a trackwork inspector, where his skills were highly sought after by nearly every transit authority in the country.  He retired from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit authority.

Mr. Sheffield had many interests and was skilled in many areas of life.  He was a skilled carpenter, mechanic, welder and specialized in transit construction.  He eagerly donated his time to his community and anyone in need.  From building ice cream machines for the Fair Ridge Assembly of God, where he and his wife attended, to making cornhole boards for the Shade Gap Fire Company, and helping neighbors with any task, he was always willing to lend a hand.  It was often said when something needed figured out and done "Call Stanley, he can do it."

Surviving in addition to his wife, Laverne, are 2 sons: Chris Sheffield and his wife, Dawn, of Shippensburg and Bradley Sheffield and his wife, Dishauntia, of Greencastle.  Additional survivors include his 7 grandchildren, who brought him much joy, Cassandra Urban, Emily Sterner, Nathaniel, Rylee, Abigail, Jason and Morgan Sheffield, 3 step grandchildren, Alexis, Michaela, and Olivia and a great granddaughter, Anya Urban.

The family will receive friends at Fair Ridge Assembly of God, 22776 Piper Lane, Shade Gap, Saturday, April 9, 2022, after 10 AM, followed by his Memorial Service at 11 AM.  Interment adjoining cemetery.  www.agettlakjer.com
